Restaurant Workers Call on Congress: Rally to Save Our Federal Unemployment Benefits!

Start: Friday, July 24, 2020 5:00 PM

We are hospitality and service industry workers, the unemployed, and their allies. The pandemic is getting worse, not better. Our industry is unsafe and not coming back. Many of us don’t have insurance or savings because our jobs were already precarious. Now, the CEOs and billionaires want to take away our only lifeline. They’re telling Congress to let our $600 federal unemployment benefits expire. They don’t care if we live or die, so long as they make a profit. It's time that we, the workers, unite to build the power necessary to have our basic needs met.

Join us this Friday, July 24th, we are taking action in cities across the country to demand Congress extend the $600! We will be rallying in front of Sen. John Cornyn’s office on W 6th and Lavaca, and marching down Congress Ave., across the South Congress Bridge, and to the SoCo restaurants to show solidarity to the workers who are being forced to work during a global pandemic.

Be sure to arrive at 4:45p or earlier so Sen. Cornyn’s office employees see us rallying. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Speakers TBD!

***FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT ATTEND THE IN-PERSON ACTION***

There will be a phone zap on Friday to jam the phone lines of Sen. Cornyn’s Austin and DC offices, demanding that he vote to extend the $600 unemployment benefits. For those interested in participating in our phone zap, please fill out this action network form.
