Rise for Climate Solutions Forum

Start: Wednesday, September 12, 2018 6:30 PM

End: Wednesday, September 12, 2018 8:30 PM

UPDATE!!

***This weekend it looked like Hurricane Florence would arrive on Friday, so thought we would still be okay to hold the forum Wednesday night. The weather is changing, with impacts Thursday morning now. Heard a recommendation today (9/10) by the Raleigh weather service saying people should be inside and home by dinner Wednesday night.

Disappointed, but we've made the decision to cancel the forum at Church of the Nativity Wednesday night, since we’re all going to be thinking about, and finishing up preparing for the storm.

***We will reschedule at a later date! THANKS!! Karen

Beginning in early September, with the main event on September 8th, thousands of events and actions will be held around the world to demand our local leaders commit to building a fossil free world that works for all of us.

There will be three events in the Triangle for Rise for Climate!!

1. On September 12, 350 Triangle is organizing the Rise for Climate Solutions Forum from 6:30-8:30 pm at Church of the Nativity in Raleigh.  Local city and county leaders will be discussing renewable energy, environmental justice, clean energy jobs, putting an end to new fossil fuel infrastructure, and more.

Come early at 6 pm to view the solar panels, community garden, and native plant garden trail outside the church. The program will begin at 6:30 pm in Corlett Hall.  More info coming as this event is organized. RSVP at link to the right for this event!!

2. September 8th, 350 Triangle is organizing the Rise for Climate Solutions Bio-Bus Tour highlighting climate solutions from household to community levels in Durham and Orange Counties from noon to 7 pm.  We'll leave at noon on a Greenway Transit Bio-Bus and tour six locations with solutions in our own communities, unleash our collective creative ideas and energy, and spark growth of many more local solutions we need to address the climate crisis.  Beginning at the Durham Station Transportation Center, the tour makes stops in Durham and Orange Counties, with interactive activities between stops and ends with a dinner and social at a home in rural Orange County. Come spend an afternoon with your fellow community members before returning by bus to our starting point. Cost is $5 per person. 3. Join us on September 10th in Durham for the Racial Equity and Environmental Justice Workshop at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Durham to deep dive into racial equity with Alexa Broderick of The Equity Paradigm and environmental justice with Naeema Muhammad and Ayo Wilson of NC Environmental Justice Network. We'll look at the United State's political history to understand how policy has shaped racial inequity then discuss how we, as environmentalists, can focus our work around environmental justice. This event is FULL! https://actionnetwork.org/events/racial-equity-and-environmental-justice-training/

Join us as we learn about solutions to climate change and hold our local leaders to account and demand that they walk the talk on climate action!!  More information on all of these events as they are updated. THANKS for your interest in Rising for Climate Action in the Triangle!!
