Safe Zone: A discussion on schools and gun violence

Start: Saturday, April 07, 2018 1:00 PM

End: Saturday, April 07, 2018 3:00 PM

Join us for an open forum + panel discussion on school safety and gun violence prevention.

Our goal is to engage with school communities (students, parents, teachers) and come away with ways to take our advocacy forward.
Our conversation will include gun control measures being sought at the national, state and local levels, increased police presence on campuses and the disproportionate impact on students of color, the details of what it would mean to arm educators and what we can do to create shifts in policy going forward.

The panelists joining us:
* Ishia Lynette, Board Member of Austin Justice Coalition
* Shraddha Joshi, student advocate and March For Our Lives - Round Rock, Texas organizer
* Nicole Golden, Austin Group Leader with Moms Demand Action - TX
* Margaret Haule, Founder of Black Lives Matter Austin
* Stephanie Martin, advocate and high school English teacher in RRISD
* Ed Scruggs, Board Vice Chair of Texas Gun Sense

Everyone welcome.  *Light refreshments are being provided!
