Saving Democracy Town Hall: The Importance of a free & fair press
Start: Thursday, June 13, 2019• 6:00 PM
A free and fair press is vital to the health of our democracy. Every day, however, the press is under attack. Massive media consolidation, attacks against journalists, hoaxes, and propaganda masking as news all have led us to a precipice as a nation. Where do we go from here? How do we restore faith in media institutions? What is the future of journalism? How do we protect and promote free speech?
Join us for a town hall on this important topic. We are honored to have as a featured speaker former Federal Communications Commissioner Michael Copps. Panelists include communications strategist Tracy Sefl, editor of the Center for Illinois Politics Kerry Lester, and Director of Common Cause's Media & Democracy Program Yosef Getachew.
This event is free and open to the public. There is paid parking available on campus.
Cosponsored by the Adlai Stevenson Center on Democracy
You may submit questions beforehand here (you can ask questions at the town hall as well, but pre-submitting your question will help inform the moderator).
