School Strike For Climate At Home

Start: 2021-10-15 11:00:00 UTC Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney (GMT+10:00)

This is a virtual event

On Friday, October 15th, we're asking school students of all ages and backgrounds to strike from school by staying at home to protest for climate action. Lismore is facing the prospect of more floods and the Northern Rivers region is facing droughts, bushfires, rising sea levels and cyclones - all as a result of unprecedented climate change. As our community prepares to face these threats, both major parties are taking millions of dollars in donations from the fossil fuel industry and backing more investments in gas, oil and coal with no regard for our future. But money can't buy our votes, or our voices.

Ahead of the UN COP26 Climate Summit in November, we're making sure our politicians know that if they don't take bold and immediate action to address the climate crisis, young voters and their allies will vote these politicians out of office.

At 11AM, we'll be holding an at-home climate rally on zoom where we'll hear from key speakers about the need for immediate climate action, and then spend the day making our voices heard by calling, emailing and messaging politicians and letting them know that we demand bold climate action.

All people of all ages are welcome. Fill in the RSVP form on the right to sign up!

SS4C Lismore pays our respects to the Bundjalung people and the countless Traditional Custodians who have cared for this land for tens of thousands of years. We acknowledge that we meet, organize and strike on stolen Country, and that sovereignty has never been ceded.
