Schools Not Jails Albany Advocacy Day
Start: Monday, January 14, 2019• 7:00 AM
End: Monday, January 14, 2019• 5:00 PM
Join us in Albany for our Schools Not Jails Advocacy Day!
Our vision for racial justice necessitates decarceration and education justice.
It’s time we prioritize schools, not jails. Everyday, 16,000 New Yorkers languish in jail pretrial, deprived of their freedom because of New York's unjust bail, discovery, and speedy trial laws. Mass jailing comes with an annual price tag of $2.5 billion.
Everyday, Black, Brown and low income children attend schools that are underfunded and under resourced. New York State owes students $3.9 billion in unpaid aid for schools.
It’s time for our state to get our priorities right. In 2019, New Yorkers demand the legislature overhaul New York's pretrial system, decarcerate jails, and both adequately and equitably distribute funding for our public schools.
Transportation to Albany from New York City and lunch will be provided. For information on buses from other cities, please see the link below.
