Vigil for Democracy & SOSAmerica2019 San Francisco Action

Start: Wednesday, August 21, 2019 5:00 PM

#VigilForDemocracy and #SOSAmerica2019
San Francisco Protest ⚫️ Wednesday, August 21st

On Wednesday, August 21st, Vigil for Democracy and SOSAmerica2019 will gather outside the Intercontinental SF Hotel (888 Howard St.), where we will join CREDO Action and other protesters. We will also have a mobile protest billboard that will be traveling through San Francisco and the Bay Area on Thursday, August 22nd.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to be in attendance at the Intercontinental SF Hotel that evening for a dinner event. Our mission is simple: We will be holding a vigil for democracy and asking for Nancy Pelosi's help. We need her leadership now.

Nancy Pelosi is the most powerful Democrat in office. She has accomplished the impossible before.
She can do that again now: Twist some arms to get our demands met.

WE CAN'T WAIT

America is in crisis. We need action now.
Come join your voice to ours to demand that we begin impeachment proceedings now.

About Vigil for Democracy

Vigil for Democracy is holding a vigil for democracy and asking for Nancy Pelosi's help. We need her leadership now.

Nancy Pelosi is the most powerful Democrat in office. She has accomplished the impossible before.
She can do that again now:  Twist some arms to get our demands met.

We are holding vigil every day for 42 days from 12:00-2:00 p.m. PST at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco office during the Congressional recess (July 29 - September 8, 2019). We ask that you come whenever you can to join us, and stay as long as possible!

In each congressional district, we’re finding leaders willing to help host in-person vigils. We ask that attendees live tweet and post publicly, using the hashtags #VigilForDemocracy and #SOSAmerica2019. Photos and video clips are best, because they capture attention. We ask those who are unable to attend to tweet and post in solidarity. At a congressional office or busy intersection is good, but at home is fine, too.

The terms Vigil and Democracy were chosen to have positive, global resonance. We’ve already featured a French-American immigrant on a hunger strike, an 80 year old who has walked several miles for DREAMers the past 568 days, and even a protest poet from Australia.

ABOUT SOSAMERICA2019

SOSAmerica2019's goal is sustained, direct actions that snowball into massive protests.

When we say “sustained, direct actions”, we are looking to the examples of Puerto Rico, Hong Kong, and others. The incredible protesters in these places did not occupy specific spaces for long periods of time. Instead, they turned out in the streets again and again and again, each time in large numbers. After a massive protest they went home, regrouped, chose their next location, and took to the streets again. These large-scale, sustained actions applied continuous pressure on their governments as the people demanded change. In the case of Puerto Rico, these actions have led to the resignation of their governor.

On Wednesday, August 21, we will have coordinated actions here in San Francisco and in New York City, Washington, DC, and Miami. We the People demand that:

  1. the criminal president of the United States and his administration step down,
  2. we secure voting in our 2020 election,
  3. we end the dehumanization and mistreatment of immigrants immediately.

Join us on the 21st to make it clear that we, the ordinary people of the United States of America, will no longer tolerate the current state of affairs, and we the people will be taking our grievances into the streets to defend our Democracy.

COME JOIN YOUR VOICE TO OURS.
TOGETHER, WE ARE THE RESISTANCE UNITED.
