Small Donor Elections Lobby Day at the Oregon Capitol

Start: Thursday, April 25, 2019 9:00 AM

Join the Voice For All Oregon coalition members for a special lobby day focusing on the new Small Donor Elections bill.

This is the time to tell your legislators that you want to limit the influence of Big Money in Oregon politics through Small Donor Elections. We want to establish a $6 to $1 super match for campaign contributions from state residents to state candidates.

Small Donor Elections create an incentive for state candidates to engage with regular Oregonians like us, rather than wealthy, out-of-state lobbyists and special interests. Small Donor Elections also remove financial barriers for women, people of color and young people to run for office and win -- thanks to the support of a diverse donor pool, not just because they have a personal fortune or wealthy friends.

You do not need prior lobbying experience to be an effective lobby day participant! Participants will receive training on how to talk to lawmakers professionally before gathering with small groups that will meet with Oregon's legislators and their staff.

Date: Thursday, April 25

Time: Exact timing will vary by participant, based on the availability of each state legislator to meet with their constituents. We will be in touch to confirm specific times with you, once meetings are scheduled. You can expect to spend several hours at the capitol. This will involve an initial prep session, just prior to meeting with your legislators, and a short debrief afterward. Meetings with legislators generally last 15 minutes each. If there is extra time between meeting with your representative and senator, you can use this to learn more at our info tables, share experiences with other participants, tour the Capitol, sit in on any of the committee meetings or hearings happening that day, or grab a bite to eat at the cafeteria.

Location: Room 161 at the State Capitol, 900 Court St NE

Transportation: We are setting up carpools. Let us know if you need a ride or have extra seats.

Parking: Metered parking is available all around the Capitol area, costing $1.50 an hour. Free parking can be found within about 8 blocks from the Capitol at the parking structure at 538 Liberty St NE.

Food: We will provide snacks and beverages. There is a cafeteria at the Capitol.
