Join Central Brooklyn DSA for the First-Ever Socialism 101!

This is an exciting milestone for Central Brooklyn DSA—our first branch-hosted Socialism 101! Designed for both newcomers and seasoned socialists, this interactive and conversational session will explore the basics of socialist theory, its application in practice, and how we can connect these ideas to organizing right here in Brooklyn.

What to Expect:

Radical Bed-Stuy History: We'll dive into the neighborhood’s rich history, from the Great Migration to the Black radical movements of the 1970s. Learn how these struggles laid the foundation for today’s organizing efforts and how they inspire our work in the fight for socialism.

The Basics of Socialism: Through group exercises and discussions, we’ll break down core concepts like capitalism, socialism, class, and ideology. No lectures—just collaborative learning that encourages participation from everyone.

The Current Terrain: We’ll briefly touch on what’s happening in our neighborhoods today and discuss how we can build working-class power for a socialist future.

Connection to Action: Learn how DSA fits into the broader history of socialism

Who Should Attend?

If you’re new to socialism, this session will give you a solid foundation to understand and discuss the key ideas that guide our organizing.

If you’re already experienced, your insights will help enrich the discussion. You may even learn something new as we connect historical and theoretical concepts to practical action.

This session is co-hosted by Central Brooklyn DSA and the NYC DSA Political Education Working Group. Bring your curiosity, your questions, and your ideas—we’re building socialism together, starting with education!
