This is a virtual event

The Socialist Night School is open to anybody interested in learning more about the ideas and history behind left and socialist movements. Like most STL DSA events, we will be conducting these virtually for now.

In the third week of STL DSA's Summer 2021 Socialist Night School, we look at the concept of ideology.

People in the US have a hard time thinking of themselves as a part of a socio-economic class. Sometimes, people on the left express this frustration through phrases like “they’re voting against their interests.” This is fine enough an explanation, but socialist philosophers, especially within the Marxist tradition, have a particularly helpful way of thinking through the phenomenon of working-class people working against their own interests. For Marx, the operative word is “ideology.”
