Solidarity Black Friday Action: Stand Up to Guess Jeans
Start: Friday, November 29, 2019•10:00 AM
End: Friday, November 29, 2019•12:00 PM
We are AFSCME, and we are standing with the workers of the Marciano Art Foundation (MAF). They are fighting to join our union family, and we are with them!
Here are the facts:
- The Marciano Art Foundation is an LA art museum, founded and backed by Paul and Maurice Marciano. These two brothers own around 30% of Guess Jeans, worth about $350,000,000. Guess has a history of union busting and labor violations.
- Nearly 70 workers at the MAF were laid off just four days after filing a petition to form their union.
- Now the Marciano brothers have abruptly closed the museum due to "low attendance"—a flimsy excuse.
We stand in solidarity with these 70 visitor services associates, leads and docents, who are organizing for basic things like a water fountain, set schedules, and to be paid more than minimum wage.
This Black Friday, November 29, AFSCME members and activists will demonstrate across the country at Guess stores in support of the MAF workers. We will be showing our support at the Auburn Guess Factory Outlet.
Please join us near the entrance at 9:50am for a quick briefing.
