Pearland Cares / / / / / Solidarity with Working Families

The time has come to exercise our First Amendment rights and stand in solidarity with working families and the vulnerable here in our local community that have been hardest hit by worsening economic, financial, and working conditions.

This is a positive, upbeat, peaceful, patriotic, and family-friendly demonstration. Be kind. Be neighborly. Treat others how you would want to be treated.

An individual working for minimum wage ($7.25 per hour, unchanged in 16 years), forty hours per week, would earn $15,068.40 per year. How can a family survive on that? Forces hundreds of miles away in Washington and Austin seek to chip away at our social safety net (food stamps, Medicaid, Social Security, and Medicare) often through clever accounting and legislative trickery. We have to do what's right. The time is now.

We're "getting our feet wet" by taking baby steps here in our area, coming together on matters all of us can see and agree upon. Demonstrations sweeping our country aren't just happening in major cities far away; these things affect us, and we want our neighbors, family, and friends to see us. Please join us!
