Fear does work! Paul Gilding, Roger Hallam and Jane Morton will discuss the research that backs strong climate emergency messaging and the ways that powerful and emotional imagery has been used to build an international rebellion.

Paul Gilding is  a Fellow at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, author of The Great Disruption and several reports for Breakthrough Institute for Climate Restoration including Climate Emergency Defined . He will lead the discussion.

Roger Hallam is a co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, and author of Common Sense for the 21st Century: Only non-violent rebellion can stop climate breakdown and social collapse. He will explore XR’s use of simple and clear, but intensely emotional communication.

Jane Morton is a clinical psychologist and author of Don’t Mention the Emergency? She will summarise the research that backs the power of emotionally congruent messages that include a personally relevant threat plus proportionate action.
