There is immediate action you can take this week before we adopt our all-in strategy on Wednesday!! The Austin DSA Leadership Committee adopted this resolution in support of Items 95 and 96 on this week's city council agenda. Email your city council member and the mayor and consider signing up to testify on Thursday! We have some suggested language.

The protest movement following the murder of Black Minneapolis resident George Floyd by police officers has sparked a wave of demands to end racist police violence and beyond. As democratic socialists, we stand in solidarity with this working class upsurge and all movements for justice. Furthermore, as a democratic organization, we must work together and vote on our course of action and a campaign to advance the political demands of the movement.

At this meeting, we will be debating, discussing, and amending a resolution on how we as an organization can build independent working class power in this moment. We recognize the failures of reforms from above, and the need for more democracy in the social, political, and economic reals of society as necessary for achieving justice and building socialism.

We will be voting to adopt this resolution prepared by the Austin DSA Leadership Committee and Austin DSA members. Members will have until midnight on Tuesday to submit amendments to the resolution. Members are encouraged to continue discussions on the resolutions contents, including our structure and demands, on our chapter's Slack. We are in the process of finalizing the exact details of the vote. Ultimately, we are committed to a democratic process and pursuing the will of the membership in how we structure our response.
