POSTPONED: Spokane Earth Day 50 Climate Strike

Start: Wednesday, April 22, 2020 1:30 PM

It is with great sadness that we announce that, due to the public health emergency, we are postponing the Spokane Climate Strike that was to be held on Earth Day 50, April 22.

It has been heartening to see that, when faced with a crisis, the world is able to take the dramatic steps necessary to safeguard the most vulnerable members of our global community. As you know, the climate crisis is just as urgent as the pandemic and that is why we can’t afford to lose focus or momentum. Although it is not yet safe to gather for a mass demonstration, there are still things that we can do to help our elected officials see the urgency of the climate crisis and to take every possible step to address it. In the coming weeks, our Spokane Climate Action Coalition will be considering ways to advance a digital campaign to replace the climate strike.

This isn’t a cancellation and we are not backing down! Too much is at stake to give up. Stay tuned for details.

Original invitation:

2020 is a critical year for climate action. As we approach the US elections and the consequences of climate change are becoming ever more clear and dire with each passing day, a new powerful wave of the climate movement has been swelling. Young people around the world have been rising up to defend our future, and have been going on strike — every week, all over the planet — for months.

On Wednesday, April 22 at the Riverfront Park Pavilion, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day by holding a climate strike and march calling for dramatic action in Spokane to address the climate crisis.

RSVP to be notified of event details and to get an automatic reminder to attend.
