Won't you join us, proleSCAREiats and ZOMBrades, on October 23rd at 7pm ET for a discussion of Marxism and horror. As the autumn leaves fall and worldly veils thin, we will gather to discuss themes in the horror genre and how they can often intertwine with Marxist analyses and critiques of modern capitalism.
As last time, this discussion will be low-barrier. So, while there are no required readings, there is a list of suggested material that attendees are encouraged to look through. There will also be a list of discussion prompts shared with those who RSVP, with topics including alienation, guilt, necropolitics, and more.
This will be a hybrid meeting, with in-person attendance at Maine DSA's Portland office, and remote attendance on Zoom. Please RSVP to receive those details along with the discussion prompts!
SUGGESTED MATERIAL:
Capitalism: A Horror Story - Chapter 3 (Jon Greenaway)
The Zombies of Karl Marx: Horror in Capitalism’s Wake (Tyler Malone)
What is Necropolitics? (Namrata Verghese)
Frankenstein (Mary Shelley)
Marxism & Halloween (China Mieville)
