Join us in helping parents, educators and students cancel MCAS standardized testing during this COVID-19 crisis.

At this meeting, we will focus first on our plans to cancel MCAS tests for 2021. Progress was made when educators and community members throughout the state organized to cancel the MCAS graduation requirement and lessen the burden of testing for all students for this year (click here for a deeper dive on this issue by CPS).

Now we need to cancel these harmful tests for all students. Educators, parents and students know that they are a burden in normal times and would be especially harmful given the unequal educational experiences of student during this crisis. We will also build on the knowledge of the public school community to help parents opt out of MCAS.

We will have a panel of speakers that includes parents, educators and activists. There will also be breakout groups where everyone has a chance to contribute. Since this is an action meeting, we will focus on how we can help build the grass roots movement to take back public education from corporations by canceling MCAS.

Our coalition partners, Citizens for Public Schools, the Massachusetts Teachers Association and New Bedford Coalition to Save Our Schools already have some great actions that you can get started on now. This document: SSEJA Cancel MCAS Actions & Updates (<click link) offers a summary of those actions as well as current info on the state of legislation, current DESE pronouncements and background info on the effects of MCAS.  This will be updated frequently so please keep that link handy

Thanks for your efforts and see you soon!
