Tesla is breaking the rules and harming our community — and so far, nothing is stopping them.
Join us next Wednesday, and stand with us in asking Travis County to put our community’s safety ahead of corporate giveaways.
Amanda is running to become Travis County Commissioner for Precinct 2 because our county needs leaders who won’t look the other way when powerful corporations break the rules.
From environmental damage to worker mistreatment, Tesla’s record at the Gigafactory near Austin raises serious concerns. Yet despite it all, the company continues to receive millions in local tax breaks— 70%-80% of the property taxes for the Gigafactory — with no conditions, no oversight, and no consequences.
It’s no accident. Tesla chose to build its Gigafactory just outside Austin city limits, and then pushed through a state law—bought and paid for by Elon Musk—that shields the factory from the city’s environmental regulations. Now, Tesla is operating with fewer rules and less accountability than nearly any other business in the region.
The Travis County Commissioners Court does have the tools to change that. They could pause or withhold property tax rebates to press Tesla to clean up its act, and hold it accountable for breaking environmental protections and worker safety laws.
We’re urging the Commissioners to use their power now. Join us at an upcoming community meeting to call on our county leaders to hold Tesla accountable—not the taxpayers.
Let’s show up and speak up.
