Strike for Transit Mobiliztion

Start: Friday, September 20, 2019 7:00 AM

We'll greet Transit Riders at selected bus stops on the CARTA system with information about how planned improvements here and greater transit use around the world can slow climate change and delay the time when we lose our coast. We'll be distibuting schedules of upcomign Climate Strike events. See https://tinyurl.com/climatechs for local schedule. Call to be put on a team and assigned a location. Noone will actually be at our office that morning, the listed location for this event. Call 843-870-5299 or email (843) 870-5299 for details. This begins a two week, 12 event coalition effort to help the Lowcountry deal with the reality of climate change instead of pretending sea walls and drainage improvements prevent hurricane storm surges and sea level rise. Our effort is coordinated with the local Fight for $15 organization. CARTA has five Pro Terra battery electric buses on order. Dozens of stops with solar powered lighting are being installed. The Students participating in the climate strike can ride CARTA transit to their strike evens for free Friday (K - 12 students in Charleston County can until Spring 2020.) However, we need better transit and faster action on our Rapid Transit System. Join us at one of the stops to greet and thank riders or make a point of taking transit to a climate strike event.
