Support May Day 2018

Start: Saturday, April 21, 201810:15 AM

End: Saturday, April 21, 2018 1:00 PM

May Day is coming! May 1 is a historic day for immigrant and worker rights, and this is the time to stand up to Trump and his attacks on immigrant communities.

Come join our outreach day on Saturday, April 21st to ask our neighbors to join us in the streets on May Day. Let's build a movement together! Training and materials provided. Spanish and English speakers welcome. Please RSVP so we can prep materials. **We are meeting in the upstairs patio area outside the library, accessible by going through the library which is on the 2nd floor. Elevator and wheelchair accessible.**

In 2006, millions of immigrants and allies took the streets and defeated anti-immigrant federal legislation. May Day in 2006 was one of the biggest "Day Without An Immigrant" that demonstrated the economic power of immigrants striking from work, boycotting and walking out from school. The original May Day in 1886 was a strike of 200,000 workers that led to the 8 hour work day.

As in recent years, Oakland Sin Fronteras and local immigrant communities are leading a May Day "No Ban, No Raids, No Wall" march in Oakland, starting May 1 at 3pm at Oscar Grant Plaza and ending at the Lake Merritt Amphitheater at 5pm. RSVP and share the Facebook event!
