Every Syracuse tenant deserves a safe, stable, and affordable home. But right now, tenants in Syracuse are living in horrific conditions due to slumlords who refuse to make timely repairs. No-cause, retaliatory evictions are on the rise, and rents in Syracuse are increasing faster than in any other municipality in the country: a 22% average increase in one year [NY Times].
Good Cause eviction could make the difference. Good Cause stops discrimination, guarantees lease renewals, limits rent hikes, and would keep Syracuse residents in our homes and communities. Ten municipalities in New York State have good cause, and Syracuse could be next!
Join progressive community organizations and aligned elected leaders to call for strong Good Cause Eviction protections in Syracuse! We'll talk about why Syracuse needs good cause, evaluate myths and facts about what the bill does and doesn't do, and call on the Council to take action urgently to Make Good Cause Law!
