Tackling the use of Hotels to House Asylum Seekers
Building power to make change

This two-part series will be led by Juliet Kilpin, Citizens UK Senior Organiser in Essex, and Dylan Fotoohi, Senior Project Manager at Refugees for Justice.

Thousands of asylum seekers in the UK are accommodated by the Home Office in former army barracks and hotels managed by security guards whilst they await a decision about their future safety. New ‘reception centres’ are due to open any day. Use of such militarised temporary accommodation, instead of community-based options, has a lasting impact on people who have already escaped brutality and conflict.

What can be done to ensure all refugees are welcome and given the opportunity to build a new life in safety?

During these sessions we will hear from leaders and organisers with lived-experience of such accommodation. We will work together to break a big problem into manageable issues, and explore ideas for building power to tackle these problems and make change.

Registration is for both parts of the series, which are taking place on:

  • Thursday 12th May - 16:00-17:30
  • Thursday 19th May - 16:00-17:30

Please register by filling in your details using the form opposite. You are encouraged to attend both parts of this series and will be emailed a Zoom link once registered.
