Child
poverty is a growing crisis in your community, affecting thousands of
families who struggle to meet basic needs like food, housing, and
clothing. Two harmful policies—the No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF)
restriction and the Two-Child Benefit Cap—are making this crisis even
worse. Your help is needed to demand change from local leaders.
On
31st August @ 11 am - You're invited to a special Phone Banking Session
where you and your fellow members will reach out to others in the
community to encourage them to join this important cause. Together, you
can make a real difference!

What Is Phone Banking?
If
you’ve never heard of phone banking before, don’t worry! It’s simply a
way of calling people in your community to inform them about this cause
and encourage them to take action.
Everything will be prepared, and you will be shown what to do!
Why Is This Important?
You’re Taking Action Against Two Unjust Policies:
- No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF): Some families in your community are barred from receiving government benefits because of their immigration status, leaving them without the support they need for necessities.
- Two-Child Benefit Cap: Families only receive financial support for their first two children, even if they have more. This policy unfairly penalizes larger families, making it harder for them to provide for their children.
These policies are deepening the child poverty crisis in your community, and it’s up to you to demand change, no one will do this for you!
What Will You Do?
During the session, you’ll come together with your fellow members to:
- Make Calls: You’ll contact other Food & Solidarity members to inform them about the issue and ask for their participation.
- Explain the Photo Petition: You’ll explain how they can join the photo petition by taking a picture of themselves or with family and friends. This petition will be delivered to your local leaders to show widespread support for ending these harmful policies. But only if 70% of members participate!
- Prepare for the Planning Meeting: You’ll also encourage members to attend an upcoming planning meeting where you’ll strategize your next steps in this campaign.
