Texas Green New Deal Activism Day @ TX Capitol

Start: Tuesday, February 26, 2019 8:30 AM

As presidential hopefuls begin to announce their candidacies and our new Congress works to define their priorities, this is a key moment to keep up the pressure for real climate leadership and a Green New Deal. We've already seen the power of activists mobilizing in the halls of Congress to change the future of climate politics and make the Green New Deal a possibility.

That's why on February 26th we're joining a national day of action and bringing the call for real climate leadership to our Texas State Representatives. We will ramp up our call for a Green New Deal by publicly calling on our elected leaders to commit to a just and equitable transition to a world free from fossil fuels, support green jobs, reject fossil fuel money, and endorse a Green New Deal.

We are congregating at 8:30am in the Rotunda of the Capitol building. (Enter the building from any entrance, go through security, and meet in the central round room on the ground floor). From 8:30am-9:00am we will discuss the plan, organize our priorities and ensure everyone understands we will conducting our visits to Representatives in a peaceful and respectful manner.  We will begin at Rep. Hinojosa's office to express our gratitude for supporting and later move to other Reps to ask for their explicit support.

Please wear you 350 Austin shirts, or your respective organization's shirts/hats/buttons, etc. If you do not have anything please wear a green shirt!

Note* There is not official end time to this event. Kelly will be there all day, so feel free to come and go as necessary depending on your schedule. If you would like to arrive after 8:30, please text Kelly to see which Rep's room is the next stop so that you can find the group.

Parking* There is a Visitor's Parking Lot that allows for 2 hours of free validated parking located at 1201 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX, 78701.

Alternate Transportation* There are lots of Cap Metro bus routes to the Capitol (https://www.capmetro.org/home/)!  Please ride the bus or your bicycle, or carpool.  Transportation is an enormous contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.
