Our education system is in crisis.

In England, schools are due to open next week - even though our teachers unions have stated that the government’s timetable is reckless, unsafe and neither fair nor feasible. Meanwhile, the sudden move to homeschooling has meant that so many pupils have not had equal access to learning.

At the same time, our Higher Education system is hanging by a thread. Fees and privatisation in our universities has already transferred the burden of cost to us as individuals. Now, again it will be students who weather the risks that universities will now have to take in order to stay afloat.

We know that our education system has faced endless attacks by years of Tory rule. Attainment gaps and access to quality education were already reflecting and reinforcing the spiralling inequalities in our society - but now it's being felt more than ever.

But how do we protect our right to free and fair education in a time of crisis? What can we learn from the different approaches being taken in Scotland and beyond? And how do we build a solid movement to save our schools, colleges and universities during COVID-19?

Join us on Monday 25 May at 8pm to hear from Ross Greer, MSP and Education Spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, on the fight for free and fair education in a time of crisis.
