We must address public health in New Jersey! Though we thank Governor Murphy for taking swift action to appoint a monitor to scrutinize University Hospital, the priority of a monitor must be to provide a course for the hospital to be a viable public institution that will continue to meet the needs of the most disenfranchised and neediest in our communities served by the hospital.

In light of recent events in and around public health care in our state, there are a lot of questions that need to be addressed.

• What does the Rutgers and RWJ Barnabas affiliation mean for public health?
• Will the independent monitor at University Hospital protect patients?
• Is Rutgers acting as the State University or a big money-grabbing corporation?
