TPP: US PIVOT TO ASIA, THE PHILIPPINES, AND PEOPLE'S RESISTANCE

Start: Sunday, September 13, 2015 7:30 PM

Time and again, the administration tells us: 'The U.S. must secure trade with Asia in order to be competitive in the global economic arena.' But unsurprisingly, we repeatedly learn that our trading partners' citizens have no say about trade agreements that are signed in their names, and most often end up as collateral damage when public lands and services are developed by for-profit transnational corporate interests, and enforced by the U.S. military industrial complex.

One recent example: Filipino officials have made it clear they want to join the TPP agreement, but this would require they amend the Filipino's Constitution to allow foreign business interests and investments, which would bode poorly for the Filipino population and environment.  Sound familiar?

In an effort to educate ourselves on the 'Asian Pivot', The National TPP Team is proud to welcome Bernadette Ellorin, Bayan USA.

Bernadette Ellorin,  is a founding member and currently serving her 3rd term as Chairperson of BAYAN USA, the US chapter of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (New Patriotic Alliance) in the Philippines. BAYAN USA is an alliance of 20 Filipino grassroots organizations in the U.S. representing youth, students, women, workers, cultural workers, and human rights advocates. As the oldest and largest overseas chapter of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN-Philippines), BAYAN-USA serves as an information bureau for the national democratic movement of the Philippines and as a center for educating, organizing, and mobilizing anti-imperialist Filipinos in the U.S.

Please join the National TPP Team Call for an honest discussion about the geopolitics behind the “Asian Pivot” and why we must organize against it this Sunday, September 13, 4:30 Pacific / 7:30 Eastern Time.
