TPP, PALM OIL & ANIMAL AG = FOREST, WATER AND CLIMATE CATASTROPHE
Start: March 20, 2016• 7:30 PM • Eastern Time (US & Canada) (GMT-05:00)
End: March 20, 2016• 9:00 PM • Eastern Time (US & Canada) (GMT-05:00)
All too often corporate giants like Con Agra, ADM, and Cargill have free access in drafting trade agreements (passing them through their congressional cohorts) that determine global food and agricultural policy that plays to the interests of monopolistic corporate profit rather than to sustainable growth of local farms and agriculture. The results have been devastating to both survival of the world’s indigenous peoples and to the earth upon which we all rely. All too often we forget that without a healthy planet, we cannot survive.
With combined extreme rates of deforestation in some of the most biodiverse rainforest regions of the world, contamination of vital water resources, and expanded corporate animal agriculture, along with the exploding palm oil monoculture trade and industrial farming, we are faced with a recipe for explosive climate change that has been mostly left out of the mainstream discussion about global warming, let alone illuminating the correlation between corporate globalization and climate chaos.
We are holding this webinar in observance of: Meatout 2016 - March 20, International Day for Forests - March 21, and World Water Day - March 22.
The focus of this webinar will be the collusion of BIG AG interests on the TPP and other toxic trade treaties, and the extreme cost the planet will pay in climate, forest, and water destruction, should the myth about the possibility of unlimited corporate agribusiness growth continue unabated.
Experts will discuss two reports on BIG AG’s influence on the TPP and the price we will all pay if activists are not successful in defeating this raw deal for the planet.
Additionally, we will hear about the impacts of NAFTA on Mexico as a prime example of how the outdated neoliberal free trade model promotes the expansion of unsustainable agribusiness and consumption at terrible costs to Mexican farmers, and the environment, and what we the people must do to stop the climate-killing trade deals known as the TPP and TTIP.
