Trump PGA Protest

Start: Sunday, May 28, 201712:00 PM

End: Sunday, May 28, 2017 4:00 PM

On May 28th, the PGA Tour is holding their Senior national championships at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia. The event is sponsored by KitchenAid. This tournament represents an excellent opportunity to further damage the Trump brand and make corporations and organizations think twice before doing anything that might associate them with the President or his family.

Local activists are organizing a protest at the Trump golf course on the final day of the championship. Protesters will line the road leading into the golf course holding banners and signs. The main focus will be on the constitutional crisis triggered by Trump’s obstruction of the Russia investigation and firing of James Comey, demanding that KitchenAid and PGA cut ties with all aspects of the Trump organization, and calling attention to the myriad of dangerous and racist policies the administration is pursuing.

This protest will send a message that Trump businesses, and corporations that choose to associate with him, are subject to the same protests as the White House, Congress, or elected officials’ offices.

How to get there:

We'll be meeting at the corner of Lowes Island Blvd and Rupert Island Pl. starting at noon.

PARKING in Lowes Island

• Parking in the neighborhood will be tight, and the PGA event is encouraging their attendees to park at either One Loudoun or Dulles Airport and shuttle in on provided buses. However, if you want to try to find parking in the neighborhood, make sure to avoid Lowes Island Blvd and Saulty Drive, as there is no event parking and towing will be enforced. If you try to find parking in the neighborhood and are unsuccessful, you can drive to the shuttle area and get a ride to the rendezvous point (see Protest shuttles below).

• There will be a checkpoint with no access on Lowes Island Blvd after Colonel Young Way and another checkpoint on Tappahannock Pl right before the Watermark Place intersection (Lowes Island Blvd becomes Watermark Place in front of the club), but traffic will not be restricted beyond that.

• Residents of Lowes Island that do not live in the restricted area next to the club should be receiving CCA Private Street temporary reserved parking (sometime during the week of 5/8) to avoid towing on the event days. If you live in Lowes Island, you can request as many parking passes as you like – contact the Cascades Community Center (703) 406-0820.

PROTEST SHUTTLES

• Pickup Location: 21070 Southbank St, Sterling, VA 20165 (Cascades Marketplace, far side past Pier One and Office Depot, in front of the old Sports Authority,) located 5 miles from the Protest Site < 10 min drive. Drop off at the corner of Lowes Island Blvd. & Rupert Island Pl.

• Drivers will be running from 12p-1p and 4p-5p.

• Indivisible Stickers and American flags will be on the shuttle vehicles.

• Please email indivisibleloudoun@gmail.com with questions, or message the Protest on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PleaseGoAwayProtest/

DC METRO option

• If you metro in, take the Silver line to Wiehle/Reston. There are no buses running to Sterling on the weekend, so from the metro station protestors would need to Uber or arrange a carpool to the protest (it's about a 15 minute car ride from the metro to the meetup spot).
