Understanding Donor Influence at GMU: An Evening with UnKoch My Campus

Start: Tuesday, October 24, 2017 6:00 PM

This lecture will use a case study of the Charles Koch Foundation to identify the ways in which donors are bypassing shared governance, violating academic freedom, and placing inappropriately restrictive conditions over the use of their funds in order to buy undue influence over academia.

After situating the conversation within the national scope, we will turn our focus to Koch's intimate relationship with George Mason University and the implications their funding has for GMU. We will close by highlighting the different ways the Mason community can act to protect academic freedom and curb undue donor influence at public institutions of higher education.

The lecture will feature three co-founders from UnKoch My Campus: Ralph Wilson, Lindsey Berger, and Samantha Parsons.

Details:
Doors open at 5:30pm. The lecture will take place from 6-8pm, with a catered reception afterwards. We invite you to come learn, ask questions, and mingle together!
