Voter Registration Event - Our Vote is Our Voice
Start: Tuesday, September 25, 2018•10:30 AM
disABILITY LINK (a Center for Independent Living, run by and for people with disabilities, serving Metro Atlanta - http://disabilitylink.org/ - Nothing About Us Without Us") in cooperation with the City of Clarkston (YT Bell, Council Member - http://clarkstonga.gov/ - "The Most Diverse Square Mile in the USA") to support voter registration - we will do this by:
Holding a Voter Registration Event on Tuesday, September 25 from 10.30am to 1.30pm
The event will be based at Refuge Coffee, 4170 Ponce de Leon Ave., Clarkston GA 30021
disABILITY LINK staff, allies and volunteers will be helping people to register to vote, providing information and options about when and where to vote, and requesting a pledge to vote
People with disabilities typically register and vote at a rate lower than people without disabilities;
- If people with disabilities voted at the same rate as people without disabilities in 2012 there would have been an additional 3 million votes cast (Schur, Adya, and Kruse – Rutgers University)
- In 2012, 30 percent of people with disabilities reported difficulty in voting, compared with 8 percent of people without disabilities (Schur, Adya, and Kruse – Rutgers University)
People who are recent citizens are less likely to register and vote as 3rd and 4th generation citizens;
- In 2012, first- and second-generation eligible voters were less likely than third-and-higher-generation eligible voters to register or vote (US Census Bureau)
We know..."Our Vote is Our Voice" - we will support our peers, neighbors, friends, family and all citizens to register to vote and use our vote - volunteers will be provided training, please contact host for more information.
