VoterVOX Design Jam - Oakland

Start: Saturday, May 21, 201610:30 AM

End: Saturday, May 21, 2016 3:00 PM

You can change the way your community votes.

Help 18MR.org design VoterVOX, a mobile app that connects bilingual AAPIs with limited English proficient voters in their communities to make sure every eligible voter has access to a translated ballot and voting information, for every election.

Can you be a designer? Of course you can. Collaborative design is a practice that empowers people, especially those without design backgrounds, to become designers. We believe in centering the needs of the people who will use the tools we build, and we’d love to have you be a part of the process.

Pairs of volunteer designers are invited to join us on Saturday, May 21 for a half-day workshop. An ideal pair is comprised of one potential voter who would prefer to vote with language assistance and one bilingual volunteer who could assist that voter with their ballot.

Bring your mom or dad, a grandparent, or neighbor. Register as a team and join us!

Lunch will be served. Oakstop is one block off the 19th St. Oakland BART station. 18MR.org will reimburse for parking if necessary.

Accessibility Information: Oakstop is accessible by elevator. Please do not wear products with a scent or fragrance, including, but not limited to lotion, soap, cologne/perfume, or hair products. You can learn more about the hows and whys of scent-free spaces here.
