We Too Sing America
Start: Tuesday, February 16, 2016•12:00 PM
We Too Sing America sheds light on the post-9/11 climate in the United States when it comes to racial anxiety, Islamophobia and xenophobia. Deepa Iyer weaves stories of young activists who work across intersections of race, national origin, immigration status, sexual orientation and faith to organize their communities and participate in resistance movements. Iyer also explores the significance of America’s changing racial demographics, including how communities of color can gain economic, political and cultural power. Iyer will lead a discussion and help connect organized labor with the issues confronting South Asian, Arab, Muslim and Sikh communities today.
Deepa Iyer’s book is an important contribution to the work of building a stronger and more inclusive democracy.
