This is a virtual event
Maybe you signed our petition, came to our march in London, or saw us in the news?
Or, like us, you think England’s largest landowners (especially the church!) should be doing far more to protect nature and tackle our urgent biodiversity crisis?
Join us and Chris Packham at 7pm on 7th Nov to kick off the next part of this exciting campaign! You’ll learn about:
Rewilding: what is it? Why is it so important now? What about farming? (and other thorny issues!)
How much land the church really owns & their responsibility to rewild it at scale.
How you can help get the church to rewild 30% of their land by 2030.
What’s the lineup?
Chris Packham, conservationist and broadcaster
Imogen McBeath, Wild Card activist and community organiser
Joel Scott-Halkes, Wild Card co-founder and strategist
More to come!
What’s the background?
At Wild Card, we’re campaigning for the church to start doing their bit to protect nature. Whilst 13% of the UK is woodland, only 4% of this Church land is covered by trees. And half of the SSSIs on church land are in an unfavourable condition!
Our petition calling on the church to rewild has received 77k signatures (and counting!)
In October, we delivered 95 reasons the church should rewild to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Church Commissioners, with campaigners, organisations, and passionate people like you marching to St Paul’s Cathedral to show your support.
Now, we’re looking at the Synod (the Church’s parliament). We want it to pass a motion to commit to rewilding 30% of church land by 2030. No more tinkering round the edges or vague intentions. A real commitment to protect nature now!
We hope you can join us, Chris, and our other speakers, for a stimulating and interactive evening of strategy and action as we kick off the next stage of this campaign, and try to secure groundbreaking change!
