Kathy Kelly has lived alongside people in war zones who try to survive both military and economic warfare.

In Iraq, she and her companions defied U.S./UN economic sanctions by delivering medical relief to Iraqi children and families. Thirteen years of economic sanctions didn't necessarily cause Iraq's dictatorial government to miss a meal. Instead, those sanctions punished Iraq's children. Hundreds of thousands of children died as Iraqis endured a state of siege.

Now, Yemeni children suffer through what UNICEF has called "a living hell." Over two million Yemeni children could suffer severe malnourishment by the end of 2020 if the Saudi-led Coalition's blockade and bombing continue. Little attention is given to the Saudi naval blockade of Yemen carried out with ships made in Bath, Maine. At the same time U.S. humanitarian assistance to most of the population has been terminated. Meanwhile the Trump/Pompeo economic war against Iran is taking a terrible toll on the civilian population of Iran, as it did in Iraq 20 years ago. But this time sanctions are superimposed on the pandemic already wreaking havoc on the country.
