Werribee Community Event: Urban heat islands in the West

Start: Sunday, March 27, 2022 2:00 PM

End: Sunday, March 27, 2022 3:00 PM

Black roofs on the horizen

For the last few months, we've spoken to people across Melbourne's West who are living with the impacts of Urban Heat Islands. Suburbs with minimal tree cover, lots of black roofs and large stretches of concrete that are hotter than the surrounding area.

As more and more of these Urban Heat Island suburbs are emerging in Melbourne's West, people are asking what can be done to make more sustainable, liveable neighbourhoods?

At this local gathering we will:

  • Discuss the local impacts of Urban Heat Islands
  • Report back on the local results of the Summer Survey and key issues that have come up in phone calls to locals
  • Identify priorities for tangible local changes for cooler, more liveable and sustainable suburbs
  • Share our progress on a video on local Urban Heat Islands

We all want to make sure that Melbourne's West is cool, equitable and sustainable for everybody.

We're meeting in Wyndham Park near Werribee Station and you'll find us near the playground and BBQs near Comben Drive and Bicentennial Bridge.

Snacks and cold drinks will be provided. We can’t wait to see you!
