Whiting 41 Break Free / Day Against Denial

Start: Friday, January 13, 2017 9:00 AM

Last May, 41 peaceful protesters were arrested at the BP refinery in Whiting, Indiana, as part of the Break Free Midwest rally and march, demanding a just transition from fossil fuels to an economy based on renewable energy. The final hearing in the case of the "Whiting 41" is set for Jan. 13, 2017 (one week before the Presidential inauguration).

Join us on Fri. Jan. 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Lake Superior Court in Hammond, Indiana (232 Russell St.) and show the incoming President and Vice-President that we are still committed to breaking free from fossil fuels. This will be a fun, non-confrontational event. Bring your singing voices. There will be a choir, a band, and street theater (as well as hot coffee).

After the hearing, we will march to the office of Sen. Joe Donnelly at the Federal Plaza to deliver our demand that he reject Donald Trump's climate change-denying cabinet nominees.

We will also be gathering the evening before (Jan 12) at 7pm for the Acoustic Jam Open Table Potluck at the Paul Henry Art Gallery, 2 blocks north of the courthouse, at 416 Sibley St., Hammond, IN. The cover is $5 or $3 if you bring a dish.
