Please join us for the annual Lanterns for Peace Ceremony, held each year to commemorate the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Aug. 6 and 9, 1945. Our aim is to help keep the memory of these attacks alive so that current generations understand we must never allow nuclear weapons to be used again.
Location: south side (the back) of the Legislative Building.
7:30 to 8:45 – participants paint and assemble lanterns and origami cranes (we will provide the art supplies)
8:45 to 9:15 – short speeches
9:15: lanterns are lit and launched in the fountain as the sun begins to set
This is a beautiful ceremony. If you have never been to one, here are some videos that will give you a good idea of what to expect.
This is a family-friendly event. All are welcome.
