Women's March - New Bern, NC

Start: Saturday, January 21, 201712:00 PM

Women from Craven County and surrounding areas are planning a Sister March this Saturday, January 21, at 12:00 noon in New Bern. This event is intended to show solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington, where about 200,000 people are expected to gather the day after the inauguration of the new President. Women, children, and men are invited to gather at the gazebo in Union Point Park in downtown New Bern at noon on Saturday. The march will end at the U.S. District Courthouse and will take place “rain or shine."

Parking will be available in Union Point Park, at the Convention Center, and on nearby streets. A limited number of handicapped spaces are available at Union Point Park and also at the march destination, which is the municipal parking lot on Hancock Street, behind the Federal Courthouse. There will be a brief gathering at the destination. The distance between the park and the march destination is approximately one mile. It will end at around 2 pm

At this time there are nearly 400 Sister Marches that have been organized in every state in the U.S.—and across six continents. Organizers are predicting a total turnout of about 700,000 people. Women of different ages, races, geographical areas, and even political parties are coming together to speak up for the rights of women and for compassion for all people. Many say that this event is mobilizing a whole new generation of organizers, people who have never before been politically active but now feel stunned and concerned by the election results and the seeming endorsement of hatred and disrespect.
