Women's March on Washington in Lakeside-Marblehead
Start: Saturday, January 21, 2017•10:00 AM
End: Saturday, January 21, 2017•11:00 AM
After making a Facebook post about marching in Lakeside, Murray unknowingly generated a wave of interest from local women’s rights supporters.
“I’ve never done something like this before,” Murray said. “I’m an older person, and I couldn’t get to Washington to march, so I decided to march on my own in Lakeside.”
Murray’s march will mirror the national event in Washington, D.C., but on a much smaller scale.
The few-hundred-foot march will begin Saturday morning at the gazebo outside of Hotel Lakeside on Maple Avenue. It will continue north until finishing on Lakeside’s dock near the hotel.
Women and men are invited to march this weekend.
“At this time in history, I felt I needed to do something to show my concern,” Murray said. “This is not a march particularly against Donald Trump, although most of us are not in favor of his position on certain issues.”
Murray continued: “We’re concerned because women’s rights are human rights. Love should trump hate. We’re supporting our sisters and brothers marching in Washington.”
