Women's March - Park City, UT

Start: Saturday, January 21, 2017 9:00 AM

Updated 1.20.17

Please print out this info sheet and bring it with you on Saturday: http://bit.ly/marchonmaininfo

ABOUT THE MARCH

We, in the creative and Park City communities, stand in solidarity with the rest of our country in demonstrating our respect for freedom, human rights, our safety and health, and in recognizing that the diversity of our country is our greatest strength.

We open this march and event to everyone who respects human rights, civil liberties, and diversity. Despite its title, like the marches happening nationwide, this march is for women AND men. Anyone who supports the rights of others and protecting those rights is welcome.

We have an opportunity in the creative communities to spread hope, tolerance and inclusiveness in our art and with our voices. We relish the chance to join Park City, its organizations and citizens, and our larger nationwide community on this day.

Organizing Committee Member Chelsea Handler will lead the #MarchOnMain, which will culminate with a rally featuring speakers that include civil rights activist and icon Dolores Huerta Aisha Tyler, Connie Britton, Mary McCormack, Peter Bratt, Benjamin Bratt, Laurie David, Jessica Williams, Maria Bello, Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski, Park Record columnist Teri Orr, Park City Youth Mayor Maya Levine and Muslim Public Affairs Council’s Sue Obeidi.

The march starts at 9:00 am on Saturday, January 21, at 220 Main Street (Wasatch Brew Pub parking lot).

This march and rally are not affiliated with the Sundance Film Festival or Sundance Institute. This is an independently organized march, and all are welcome who want to support human rights, inclusion, and civil liberties.

PLATFORM

With over 616 (and counting!) Sister Marches planned around the world (including 40+ countries), the Park City March on Main is proud to adopt the platform of the National March on Washington: http://bit.ly/wmplatform.

With the guiding themes of equity, justice and dignity, we affirm our shared humanity and pronounce our bold message of resistance and self-determination.

HOUSEKEEPING
Signs

As you are making your fabulous signs, please remember: we discourage wooden sticks on signs. Instead, please cut up cardboard boxes and double layer, or use an empty wrapping paper/paper towel roll reinforced with duct tape. Be creative!

What to Bring

Please bring CHANTS! Do some google searches and find ones that reflect the issues that matter to you most, or write your own. Plenty of time to practice in carpools, in parking lot lines, on shuttle buses… Make your voice heard!

Other than that, as little as possible! *Please* leave your bags in the car. Use your pockets or a fanny pack to bring things you really need: warm gloves, hats, small snacks, water bottle... The forecast is for snow, so WEAR WARM BOOTS and ski socks.

We suggest everyone wear purple, pink or white beanies or hats to indicate unity and togetherness.

Women, men and children are ALL welcome!

SAFETY

  • Keep your cool.
  • Do not bring anything that can be used as a weapon (including wooden sign sticks).
  • Stay to the edges of the crowd.
  • Have a meet-up-if-you-get-separated plan; do not count on your cellphones.
  • Write important information on your forearm in Sharpie (emergency contact, drug allergies, etc.); it will wash off eventually.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Wear warm boots and socks.
  • Don't carry anything you can't lose.
  • Listen to the energy and calmly leave the vicinity if you have any doubts about anything. (All the marches across the country are intended to be peaceful gatherings, but disruptors can infiltrate any public event and incite violence. Use your best judgment.)
  • Keep your eyes open and look out for each other. We know you will. We are all in this together.

PARKING & TRANSPORTATION

  • Satellite lots have been secured for #marchonmain.
  • PLEASE CARPOOL. Use the threads on our Facebook page to connect with other marchers traveling from your area. We strongly encourage you to fill cars to capacity, plan ahead and use these lots. These are the best options in terms of minimizing the footprint in town.
  • We understand that parking and buses will add time to your schedule, so be sure to plan accordingly -- it will be a day to remember!
  • Our goal is to eliminate ANY cars attending the march from going into Old Town to help mitigate traffic for workers and skiers.

As the hard costs for such an event are starting to accumulate (security, staging sound, portapotties, parking, and more!), please check out our GoFundMe page and consider making a donation: http://bit.ly/marchonmainfund

The contributions will go directly to the cost of logistics and production of the event. Any leftover proceeds will help Utah/Park City progressive voices who will help protect and advocate for the ideas for which we are all marching. We greatly appreciate your support!
