Women's March - Wellington, New Zealand | http://bit.ly/2iyjQ78
Start: January 21, 2017•10:30 AM
People all over the world are marching to coincide with US President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration and his first day in office. We stand in solidarity with the WomenÍs March movement that is taking place in Washington, DC and all around the world. Our mission follows that of the WomenÍs March on Washington: ńWe stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families -- recognising that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.î We will march peacefully from Parliament to Wellington Civic Square and join Love Trumps Hate - NZ, a free family event from (noon to 2pm) to stand up for democratic values and human rights. The timing coincides with President-elect Trump's inauguration on January 21st 2017. The free family festival in Civic Square is the brainchild of Kiwis and ex-pat Americans living in Wellington who are deeply concerned about Trump's policies, but also want to celebrate core American democratic values of human rights, equality, tolerance and diversity. The people of the US, but also of New Zealand and the rest of the world, are entering entirely unfamiliar political territory. Donald TrumpÍs inauguration as president on 21 January matters to everyone, whether you live in Wellington or Washington. This festival is a chance to uphold democratic values, human rights, economic inequality, and the future of tortillas. The public is invited to bring along a picnic and listen to live music and lively speakers, including US-born Kiwi Green MP Julie Anne Genter, investigative journalist Nicky Hager and climate change activist Aaron Packard.
