Citizen Action to Host March on Binghamton on Jan. 21
Binghamton City Councilman Conrad Taylor, Saba Siddiqui of the Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier, Rabbi Barbara Goldman-Wartell, Broome County Legislator Mary Kaminsky, and others will speak at Women’s March on Washington sister event.
Binghamton, N.Y., Jan 12, 2017 -- Citizen Action is hosting the March on Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The March serves as a sister event to the Women’s March on Washington, a national event happening in Washington D.C. on the same day. The March will begin at noon at the Martin Luther King Jr. statue on the corner of Henry St. and Wall St. in downtown Binghamton. Participants will march along Court St. and end on the lawn in front of the Broome County Courthouse. Speakers will include Binghamton City Councilman Conrad Taylor, Saba Siddiqui of the Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier, Rabbi Barbara Goldman-Wartell, Broome County Legislator Mary Kaminsky, with performances by local artists.
“The purpose of the March is to join together to ensure that the rights, safety and health of everyone in our community is protected,” said Stephanie Snyder, one of the chairs of the event. “This is an inclusive, peaceful event to make it clear that we will not allow anyone in Broome County to feel threatened.”
“We want to affirm the value and integrity of all people from all perspectives, orientations, and faiths,” said Rabbi Barbara Goldman-Wartell. “This event is about unity.”
Following the March, there will be an after-rally party at Atomic Tom’s on Court St., with refreshments and live music.
