What is Worker Wednesdays?

Every last Wednesday of the month, workers and community allies gather virtually on zoom to mobilize and organize for worker justice in BC. Worker Wednesdays offers a space to find pathways to obtain worker-led demands and to take action for legislative change to ensure workers are protected.

We encourage everyone to participate in whatever way feels best to them, whether that's camera on or off, being a listener, or using the chat to share their thoughts.

What happened last Worker Wednesday?

  • Workers are rising and you can too! We heard from Ben Ger with the Labourer's International Union of North America, who shared a presentation on the history of LiUNA, together with a organizing 101 crash course on how YOU can unionize your workplace before wrapping up with stories of some recent organizing! Come to Worker Wednesday if you are interested in unionizing your own workplace and want to find out how!
  • October was Healthy Workplace Month: We heard from Matt Pi from the Decent Health and Work Network on some of the struggles for paid sick days and decent work for all. A healthy workplace is one that respects its workers, guarantees paid sick days, and guarantees decent wprk and we found out about how the Decent Health and Work Network is fighting to make that happen!
  • Justice Delayed is Justice Denied! Our campaign to increase funding to the Employment Standards Branch to ensure no worker is left waiting is ongoing and we shared an exciting updates as well as next steps! The fight is not over  -  we have to ensure increased funding for workers' protections to become a reality! To that end, we have launched a petition to help identify allies, pressure the government, and are building up to rallies to show worker power loud and clear! Sign NOW to become involved!
  • And we took action! Workers are rising across BC and ready to stand up and fight for their rights. We all partook in a phone bank to call BC Minister of Labour Harry Baines, Minister of Finance Selina Robinson, and our Members of Parliament to say Justice Delayed is Justice Denied! Workers are taking their rights into their own hands, to build a better world for us all!
