The cost of attending college is a major barrier for many students. With student loan debt in the United States reaching almost $2 trillion, and millions of Americans struggling to pay off their loans, something has to change.

The College for All Act -- introduced in the House by Rep. Pramila Jayapal and in the Senate by Sen. Bernie Sanders -- aims to make higher education more accessible and affordable for all Americans by addressing the root cause of the problem.

The bill will provide free tuition at public colleges and universities for students from families with incomes under $125,000. This would make a college education affordable for millions of Americans for the first time, giving them a chance to get ahead.

In addition to providing free tuition, the College for All Act would also increase funding for Pell Grants, helping more students afford the many additional costs associated with attending college, such as books, housing, and transportation.

The College for All Act would also invest in historically Black colleges and universities, as well as tribal colleges and universities. This would help these institutions provide a high-quality education to their students and better serve their communities while helping to close the racial wealth gap.

Best of all, it is funded by a modest tax on Wall Street speculation, which means that the cost of paying for this legislation would fall on those who can afford it, rather than on middle- and low-income Americans.
