Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans shut down the government in order to advance a white supremacist agenda. Their irresponsible actions have put everyday Americans at risk.

Republicans control the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House. Instead of working to improve the lives of working families, they chose to spend the last year attacking health insurance for millions, and passing a reckless tax scam that rewards greedy corporations and millionaires at the expense of working families.

Democrats agreed to bipartisan legislation that their base vehemently opposes in order to avert a shutdown. Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump were unwilling to meet them partway. Their refusal to compromise isn’t governance—it’s reckless obstruction at the expense of this country.
