Add your name: Make America Honest Again

The current media landscape is a minefield for anyone who wants clarity and truth in news reporting. Sadly, new technology has made it easy for millions of people to get sucked into believing—and promoting—news reports that later prove to be at best less than accurate, or at worst, completely falsified.

So several organizations are banding together to promote the Pledge for Truth: Center for Environmental Health, Center for Media and Democracy, Climate Reality Project, Consumer Action, and Daily Kos.

Please join us, and sign the pledge for truth.

Are you tired of living in a post-truth world where opinions are passed as “alternative facts” without any substantiation in reality? Have you shared a news story only to find out later it wasn’t real?

Commit to checking the facts BEFORE you post something on social media. We all deserve more than “truthiness.” Whether it’s lies or wrong information, we’ve had enough and it’s hurting our democracy. Make American honest again and take the pledge.

How can you do that? Read the Pledge below, and sign on. By doing so, you'll show how many people are behind this effort and help stop the spread of fake news.

After you sign, you'll see resources for how to check your news. And don’t forget to share on social media, one of the places where fake news needs people like you to push back.

The Pledge for Truth:

When you #PledgeTruth, you are taking a stand for credible news reporting and real journalism, and saying no to the fake news chaos that floods our media and demoralizes democracy. The pledge is three simple commitments:

  1. I will only share news from sources that I trust.

  1. I will avoid sharing news from sources that seem untrustworthy.

  1. I will ask questions when others share unverified stories with me.
