Alaska has a public safety staffing emergency.

A defined-benefit pension is a retirement security plan that is proven to recruit and retain essential public employees. In 2005, Alaska closed their pension system to new hires, and has struggled with declining recruitment and retention rates ever since.

Right now, lawmakers in Alaska are considering restoring pension benefits to public employees. We need Senate Bill 88 to keep public safety employees on the job and in the state. SB 88 would bring pensions back to the public employees who serve and protect Alaska's communities. Pensions are proven to recruit and retain employees--and that's something Alaska needs.
