Call Mayor Duggan: Stop The Tax Foreclosures and Water Shutoffs!

Right now hundreds of people in are blocking the streets around the Wayne County Treasurer's office demanding an end to Tax Foreclosures and Water Shutoffs in Detroit.

Today, June 8th, thousands of occupied homes in Detroit will go into foreclosure for tax debt and already 25,000 homes are slated to have their water shut-off. But a united community is fighting back. Anti-austerity activists are linking arms with no-tar sands campaigners, prison-abolitionists and people fighting police violence to shut down the streets of Detroit today.

Activists in Detroit are modeling the intersectional movement building and tactical escalation we need, and they've asked #FloodTheSystem activists to stand with them today by calling Mayor Duggan and demanding an end to Tax Foreclosures and Water Shutoffs.

Here's what to do:

  1. Call Mayor Duggan's Office at 313-821-7968
  2. Ask to speak to or leave a message for Mayor Duggan
  3. Demand that the Mayor put an immediate halt to tax foreclosures and water shutoffs for Detroit's residents.
  4. Use the form on this page to tell us how it went. That way, he can't deny how many calls he received.

Detroit is in a state of emergency. This emergency was created and intended. This crisis has been orchestrated by Wall Street bankers and billionaires.

Schools and services are shattered while property taxes are diverted to pay off debt service to banks. If thousands of occupied homes face tax foreclosure and eviction today, neighborhoods already devastated by years of predatory lending by banks will be eliminated.

But united community resistance can preserve and build a just city that reflects the culture, hearts and souls of Detroiters. Today let's #FloodTheSystem.
