Call the Kentucky Board of Education and Tell Them To Stop the JCPS Takeover
Call (502) 564-3141
This summer, the Kentucky Board of Education (KBOE) will make a decision on whether or not they should approve a state takeover of Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS). It's critical that we continue to make our voices heard in the weeks leading up to the hearing, and the best way to do that is to call KBOE and tell them to oppose the takeover.
Nationally, state takeovers have focused on large urban school districts with large populations of students of color and have failed to improve student outcomes. Following state takeovers across the country, communities have seen resources shifted away from public schools, school closings that leave some students without a nearby school, and the potential end of magnets and after school programs.
Use the contact information below to contact the KBOE and tell them to vote no on the takeover of JCPS.
When you call KBOE remember to tell them that:
- Under the direction of Superintendent Marty Pollio, JCPS has started to make progress in closing educational disparities
- The JCPS school board was democratically elected from our community, and is best equipped to serve our students
- JCPS needs additional state support, not a state takeover, to ensure our students have the resources they need to thrive
